Boost my application for getting to be an accountant?

I am due to graduate at the end of next year (2011) with a Bachelor of Commerce (accounting)/Bachelor of Economics. I have a crappy GPA and have failed a fair few subjects. I want to be an accountant and need ways to boost my application for when I apply in Feb. I'm Australian - is there anything I could be doing over the summer holidays to boost my applicaiton?
