Books and film titles - The best and worst

Lately, John Le Carre's " The Constant Gardener" was one of the films that was a must see film for me.

I loved the book and have to say that Ralph Fiennes was my every expectation. However, Rachel Weiss didn't quite hit the notch for me.

I also didn't like the fact that many characters were cut out of the original story, but understandably so from a film point of view.

I just felt a bit deflated out of the Le Carre's original energy in this film.

I know this is just my point of view, but has anyone else felt like this after reading a very powerful book.

BTW. I have a feeling that "The Da Vinci Code" will be exactly the same.
 
its almost impossible to turn a good book into a good film. most of thetime they are untranslatable because of the different mediums and the low/high context material on offer between the two. you can either go the mini series route to get the depth or you have to make the film 3 hours +.

pride and prejudice was pretty wickstead as was emma and sense and sensibility. but for every emma theres a captain corellis mandolin which i thoiught detracted fromt he book in so many ways. the casting was shocking as well.

schindlers list was a good take of the thomas keneally book even though it left bits out. was always gonna be a winner though wasn't it...tugging on the old heart strings. band of brothers was another good series based on a book (which i haven't read, but surely it can't be better than the pretty amazing and presumably expensive series). they made a good fist of puzo's godfather too.

some books are hard to make into films because most of the book concerns inner feelings of the characters that rarely if ever can be portrayed on screen.

i tryto steer clear of films once ive read the book now tbh, it tenRAB to tarnish the memory for me a bit. i.e. radford's 1984 just annoyed me

im sure ive missed out loaRAB of amazing ones and sh1t ones that ive just forgotten

then you just have the heinous crimes of casting orlando bloom in homer's iliad. i bet the old bastard would be turning in his grave.
