Book with a Pig as a pet in in it. Dad kills it?

Any idea what it is? This kid on a farm has a pig as a pet. The dad kills it when it is grown up. That is all I can remember about it. Kinda a old book. I had to read it in school and remember it was kinda good.

Its not Babe. I don't even think Babe dies, but people always guess Babe.
