Book about hitch-hiking, drugs, being a groupie?

i want to find a book about a girl (preferably), who leaves home or something..and hitch hikes, or finds her way away from home and her expiriences.. the whole 60's thing.. maybe not even 60's, but somthing like that....please not "Go Ask Alice", though. I've already read it..and loved it.

Forrest Gump (yes, it was a book before it was a movie) goes into Jenny's life as she starts taking drugs and drives around with hippies before almost committing suicide, much moreso than they went into it in the movie. She isn't the focus of the book obviously, but her story seems to match what you're looking for really well.
