My wife wanted me to sign up for an insurance policy that would cover
home care, travel expenses for medical procedures etc. It didn't appeal
to me but i finally relented, getting signed on before I turned 60 so I
didn't have to do the medical and while I still had no pre-existing
conditions. I finally got signed up in early September.
it was later in September that I went to see about the chest pains, so
.... no pre-existing, though it probabaly was. Then I ended up in the
hospital in early November and had emergency heart surgery. My wife
kept track of the trips back and forth, filled out the claim form and
sent it in a few weeks ago.
Yesterday I got a letter from the insurance company and didn't bother
opening it right away, not expecting much. My wife opened it for
me..... a cheque for $978 ! I got $700 for having been in hospital for
more than 3 days, plus $150 for "hospital cash", and the rest for for
mileage and reimbursing me for the fee th doctor charged for signing the
form. Not bad for a policy that is about $14 Per month. It just paid
for itself for the next 9 years.
