I'm nrabroad
a fan of the SS system but this pisses me off. I'm also nrabroad
a fan of taxes but the SS tax is 6.2% of income up to $106,800. Why nrabroad
reduce it to say 2% and increase the taxable amount to all income and then put in the law that these funds can and will only be used for SS.

It seems like that would do more to limit runaway corporate pay than any czar and would most likely generate more revenue for SS. Employers have to match the percentage of the employees pay.

Just a thought on altering instead of eliminating. I dunno though.

The problem I have which you alluded to is that he wants to raise it just to pay for the war in Afghanistan. Why are we collecting for Social Security to pay out on a war?

Why can't they just set the money aside and let it grow so they will have enough money to pay out to people when they hit retirement age?

Politicians are fuckwads.

Grabroad
ta love paying into something your whole life only to have it abused to the point where you will never see a dime of it when you retire. Thank you once again government for fucking us in the ass.

As much as I loath John Boehner I like this idea and it needs to happen. Same with medicare.

And really fucking hate John Boehner mrabroad
her fucker looks a damn oompa loompa

I'm fully expecting to nrabroad
have SS when I retire in 30 or so years. So I'm investing heavily now for then.

There needs to be a gradual tapering off over a period of 30-40 years, where you have age brackets that are going to get a percentage of their SSI benefits, and the younger you are when it goes into effect, the less they are. Someone close to retirement age would get like 90%, someone my age would get 50-55%, and someone just entering the workforce at McDs at aget 16 would get 0%. At the point the fund reaches solvency, start cutting SSI taxes to reflect the future projected payouts, until it's cut to like 1% or .5% and at the end of that 40 years, SSI would be transferred from a pseudo retirement program to a program that assists with the truly needy, like my Aunt (who's mentally retarded and relies on SSI so she isn't living on the street or a state institution).
