Bollywood Movies Thread

Did a quick search but nothing came up so thought of this thread idea.

A place where we can discuss new (and old) Bollywood movies. Of course no spoilers allowed.

Saw Bum Bum Bole on TV a few days ago. Not sure where the story was going with this one. It was neither a children's film nor an adult film. There were scenes in there of rape, shootings, bombs, drugs and at the same time we saw two young children trying to make do witj one pair of shoes (after losing the other). If the gory stuff had been removes then this would have been a fantastic little film of great values of young children.

A really great idea! I used to be into Bollywood films, but it's been a few years since a watched a Bollywood film. The thing that turns me off Bollywood films is that 99% of them are exact copies of Hollywood films. I just feel its an extremely lazy and cynical way of film making and the films are never as good as the originals. Is this still true, or are there more original films being released?
Also, it would be good to know what everyone's favourite Bollywood film is, just to see what people like.I have three: Dil Chata Hai, Bombay to Goa and Hungama.

Things have changed indeed. Now we have innovative cinema and films that can give Hollywood flicks a run for their monies.

Of course, the majority of films released are 'rubbish bearing in mind that they churn out near to 800 films a year. So not all can be perfecto.

I can recommend some good new films for you that you will enjoy and probably come back to loving them. PM me.

As I started this thread it makes sense for me to keep updating it to generate interest. So I have decided to give my views on all movies (Bollywood) that I watch from now on - with a link to a critic's review. I won't clutter the thread and keep the views to only NEW cinema releases that I watch.

Just saw Khatta Meetha. This is a comedy which stars Akshay Kumar and he is known to be these days concentrating on doing comedic roles. This is a good film to enjoy without testing your brain cells. It has a moral to the story but laughs are above and beyond any message being filtered out. Akshay does well but he must be a master in the art of comedy timing what with the tons of comedy films he has done of late. The film won't win any big awarRAB but then again it wasn't made to do that. I liked it and I like serious and fun films. But for Akshay Kumar fans, this is a must watch.

Havn't seen any new films in the cinema etc - can never get a baby sitter when we have some free time.

But watched 'A Wednesday' (Nasserrudin Shah / Jimmy Shergill / Anupam Kher...) on sky yesterday. Wasnt expecting much because of the lack of 'star cast' but was pleasantly suprised. Didnt expect the the twist near the end.

Basic premise is that some bombs are planted all over the city, police have to release some terrorists to stop these going off. No real action scences or anything, but the film makes you think.

My three favorites are:
Sarforosh
Laila Majnu
Karan Arjun

OH's are,

Ta Ra Rum Pum,
Kabie Khushi Kabie Gham
Jeet

Agree with qwerty282 - some copies are still blatant copies, but more and more new stories and genres are being looked at and now most films are advertised as remakes if they are not originals. Before people would swear that things they copied were their ideas.
