Bob Clampett's work on shelved John Carter of Mars animation

I remember seeing some sketches from the "running thoat" scene many years ago and thinking, "If only...."

The footage looks awesome, with the kind of dyamic motion you can only get from hand-drawn animation, and it's such a shame this never came to fruition. I'm not sure how much story you could cram into a theatrical short (the biggest weakness of the Fleischer Brothers' "Superman" cartoons), but suppose they had done the shorts as "chapters" of a bigger story, like movie serials of the day.

I'm interested in seeing how the Pixar version compares to this. Will they go with the kind of realism that Clampett pursued, or will it be as stylized as The Incredibles. And how much (or how little) clothing will Dejah Thoris be wearing? In the books, she and John Carter were nude....all the time.

John Carter was one of my favorite book series as a kid. I never could get into the Tarzan books, though.

I hope whatever Pixar is doing, they go for something more serious looking than The Incredibles.

Thanks for the link!
