bmx bike question????????

hi im gonna start rideing bikes but i need to ride it to school but i dont want a mountain bike cause they look funny but there comfortable for longer rides (my school is like a 15 min bike ride) but i want a bmx bike but there not good for longer rides i heard of bmx race bike are those a little higher of the ground because i want a fast bike too thanks
