Bluetooth & SMS + How to set init string

Hi all,

I have just got a Motorola V600 mobile phone. Through searching the net I have seen lots of users have problems getting theit Palm T3 to connect to this.

I have used the TP280i phone link driver as suggested somewhere and the two devices can find each other. I can also use the dialler from the Palm T3 and it calls the number from my V600.

I CANT get the Palm T3 to recieve or send SMS messages though, can anyone help with this?

I have seen some people mention setting an init string, where/how can this be done?

I had this problem with my T3 and I have a Sony Erricson T610. Everything else was working, but I could not get the SMS to work, I contacted Palm and they advise me to put the +sign and country code in front of the number and it is now working fine.

Hope this fix's your problem.
 
thanks for the reply guys but this has not solved the problem unfortunately.

I have tried using +447... insead of 07... with no luck, it attempts to send and then gets and Error - Unable to connect to phone. Please check your settings and make sure your phone is ready.

Anyone know about how to set an init string??

Hi all,

Does anyone know how to set an init string?

I have found from another thread on the net that I can edit the Standard GSM init string to allow my Motorola V600 to send SMS messages that I have wrote on the Palm T3?

I have managed to get the dialer working, please see the other thread for more details:

Yipeee, got one part of it sorted now. I can send the SMS from the PDA but NOT retrieve from the phone?

If anyone knows how to retrieve the SMS from V600 please can you let me know?

PS I changed the init string through the preferences section.
 
I'm grateful to all of you posting on this . . . I'm "just about ready" to plunge into this myself and will need all the help I can get since it's new . . . and I'm getting that help here!

Thanks to all for posting and I for one would appreciate any OTHER LITTLE TIPS you've got. I"m also monitoring the other post as well ("Setting up INIT string").

Perhaps a MOD could MERGE these two threads, or cut and paste material, since they apply to the same IMPORTANT information!

Some useful tips when setting up your BlueTooth connections.

When you search for your phone ensure that the the phone is being seen as a phone and not an audio device. If its seeing the phone as the wrong type try taking the sim out of the phone and putting it in another phone, this sorted it out for me.

Also ensure that you have the up to date phone link drivers from palm which can be downloaded on their site.

I also managed to get a GPRS connection working so can browse the web using web pro which is really good. I found how to set this up off another post somewhere, I have included it below for you, I only had to change one part to get it working and that was the mobile.o2.co.uk to orangeinternet (I am on the Orange UK network). Hopefully this may help you set up a connection also:

Settings are for O2, but will work with any other with minor changes....

Once the phone is properly paired with the Palm Tungsten T3, proceed as follows:

1. Go to Prefs, Connection

2. Click New... to create a new Connection

3. Fill out the form as follows:
Name: V600 LAN
Connect to: Local Network
Via: Bluetooth
Device: (select your phone from the list of paired devices)

4. Click on Details, and verify the following settings:
Speed: 57,600 bps
Flow Ctl: Automatic

5. Click Ok, then Ok, then Done.

6. Go to Network

7. Click New, and fill out the configuration as follows:

Service: O2 GPRS
Username: username (- no, really! just the word password)
Password: password
Connection: (select V600 LAN from your connection list)

8. Click Details... and verify the following information:
Connection type: PPP
Idle timeout: 3 minutes
Query DNS: Checked
IP Address: Automatic

9. Click Script... and create your login script as follows:

Send: AT&FX1E0V1
Send CR:
Send CR:
Send: AT+CGDCONT=1,IP,mobile.o2.co.uk
Send CR:
Send: ATDT*99***1#
Send CR:
Wait For: CONNECT
End:

10. Click Ok, and then Ok again.

Click the Connect button, and you will be able to verify your GPRS connection.
If you did everything correctly and have your devices paired correctly, your Palm Tungsten T3 will be able to access the net using GPRS over Bluetooth!

If you have a different carrier, just change the
Send: AT+CGDCONT=1,IP,mobile.o2.co.uk TO
Send: AT+CGDCONT=1,IP,XXXXXXX - where XXXXX= your service provider

don't forget to change the username and password (get from provider)
