Bluetooth In my car... Head unit or Stand Alone?

So i'm about to get a new stereo for me car and I'm trying to decide between paying more and getting one with Bluetooth, or just buying a separate Bluetooth car adapter later.

Pretty much all I care about is which will be the most functional. Is there anything inherently better about one over the other? Is one "generally" better than the other?

Would appreciate any info you guys might have.
