Bluetooth Dialing Motrola Razr

Bit of background, then a question . . .

Finally got a REAL Bluetooth phone, as opposed to the "crippled" Verizon I've had 2 years. Went with T-Mobile - fantastic! Bonds fine with Palm T3 (which VZN wouldn't do) - can send contacts, pics, make wallpapers, etc etc. Good.

I am sending off my upgrade $$ today for Agendus 11, upgrading from 8.0. However, TealPhone will not tap dial a number despite how I configure it, what baud rate I use . . . something about "unable to connect" or "driver" or something. The bluetooth light on the phone does "respond" to incoming, but no dialing. My fear is that Agendus won't either because something needs "tweaking" on the T3 to make it activate a Razr phone.

The whole reason I will pay for the Agendus 11 upgrade is so that I can tap dial contacts and have their contact history in front of me, plus the added benefits of Version 11 should I go with a TX, and the "free time calculator," etc etc.

Is there a Palm T3 driver available which I need to download for the Razr phone? Does the T3 not recognize the razr because it's newer than its "phone list" of drivers? Does anyone here tap dial via bluetooth?

Thanks in advance. / p

Well, I've had another run at it and I'm getting frustrated. Attached HERE is a screenshot of all the files including dialer and "phone link" that I've obtained from Palm - installed - to no avail. Still getting error message from my above post.

Any ideas? I tried installing the original T3 "factory" disk, which I thought might have "mobile connectivity" options -- but 1) it won't get past the main install which I don't want since I have the 4.1 desktop, and 2) gave me an error message - so that's out.

Any ideas, or do I just get a TX to be able to tap dial?!? Thanks all / p

That driver list looks pretty old--I had a Motorola TP280 several years ago.

I've never tried to do what you're doing; my PDA-phone communication has been strictly getting online with the PDA through the phone, and I use the "generic GSM phone" driver.

There is this app--"Mobile High Speed" by Nova Media:
http://www.palmgear.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=software.showsoftware&PartnerREF=&siteid=1&prodID=55209
Claims to have drivers for most phones it supports (er, OK...) and allows tap-dialing. There is a trial, but I can't say how functional it is.

By the way, which Razr did you get? I have the Pearl Grey version myself, and flashed it with an unbranding "monsterpack" from modmymoto.com. T-Mobile doesn't cripple their phones that much, but the unbranding MP (or even the unbranding flex that's available) give you some menu options that the T-Mo version does not. (I also turned my V195 into a V197, which is the unbranded equivalent.)

The cable from the Tungsten E fits both phones perfectly.

Ooh! Interesting! I'll have a look at it. I've already got the custom wallpaper down - the GIMP allows you to "smart resize" to anything including wallpaper for PC to small (176x220) Razr wallpaper. Heather Kozar now proudly on display . . . but I can't open the phone near anyone under 18.

I do have the bluetooth working for BT'ing anything from the T3, which will be a "holding station" for wallpaper, pics, and shortened mp3s that I can make my own ringtones with. I use Audacity for that.

I'll look at your suggestion but I believe that would involve a reflash, and while I'm brave doing the JackFlash thing (well, no more - that's history) - I don't know if I'd tweak the ROM of the razr. I'm currently looking for "Phone Tools 4" from Motorola, which is available at BestBuy - but I think weth Bluetooth you don't really need it except to reorganize speed dials, etc. It would be good as a backup utility and comeswith the cable - but prices seem to range from $29 online to $59 from T-Mobile. Yikes. AND IT;'S 80MB!! Good Lord. Twice the size of Palm desktop to synch your phone #s.

My model's a V3 and seems flawless - does not crash after adding multiple addresses (which also works bluetooth) - like my v710 did. After adding/subtracting 3-4 addies/numbers, you had to remove the batter to reset it or it wouldn't charge properly. V3 fixes that, the keypad's better, the menu is better.

Speaking of menus (and now we're REALLY OT!) - Motorola is apparently releasing a Linux based phone in the fall - no real difference except it will be more reliable, and the menus you menntion are supposed to be REALLY improved.

Back on subject, Tealpoint wrote me and said "don't use the "Bluetooth" as marked driver - with the selected baud rates - use the internal "Palm" setting so I'll try that. I have never seen an option to "tap dial" on the Palm T3 contacts menu, and that may have been something I "JackSpratted" in which case it's my fault. There are no "v3" drivers that I can see; apparently they all go off the 280i driver, which has been updated.

If it's all moot and I can't do it, I won't fret - at least I can BT it to more than earbud for transferring files/numbers/pics/ringtones. Makes it more functional, and I was thinking last night, "how often would I sit there and tap dial anyway?" It seemed a cool idea to use with AGendus, but I may just hold off til I get the TX and then it should "all work." For now I've just deleted all those files, inluding the 2 "PMN" updated RAM files that had been in there for a while. Seems to have no effect on the proggies I'm running and I forget what exactly installed the "updated ones" months ago (possibly Docs2Go).

Thanks Telyx - I'll go to that link right now.

I've been using IrfanView to crop and resize my pictures for a while now. However you do it, it's nice to be able to make your own wallpapers instead of having to buy them. Same for ringtones. Just whip 'em out in Audacity--even fade the end out instead of having a sudden cut.

By the way, another handy use for the phone/PDA combo is sending pictures from the phone (taken with the phone's camera) to the PDA for storage on the PC. SOME carriers make you use their data service to do anything with pictures besides look at them in the phone, and make you buy ringtones. (If you ended up with a Samsung with T-Mobile, you would have some gymnastics to do to get your own ringtones on the phone; with Nokias and Motorolas, it's as easy as .mp3.)

Reflashing a Motorola isn't hard, but if it's your only phone, it's hard in a different way. It took me a while to get up the guts to flash a different font to my V195, but once I got the Razr, I could get braver. Now, both phones have been reflashed to "unbranded" status although both are still locked to T-Mobile, and both have new fonts and icon sets as well as customized color scheme/skins (clear menu bars at the bottom and stuff like that--all the better for seeing my wallpaper).

Now that I have my Zodiac doing everything I want it to do, while I can't really say I'm getting bored with it, my "fiddling around" has shifted more to the phones than the PDA. Not sure how long this phase will last... my wife has no problem with me messing around with my phones if it keeps me from buying new ones.
