Blu ray player

The Bourne Ultimatum is a great film on blu ray and well just anything with a bit of action and fast paced movement are my ideal films to watch on the sexy looking blu ray.

For anyone else looking into a blu ray then look at the PS3 as it's not much more than the stand alone players and it's not just a player and easy to update when different versions of blu ray come out...for example BD 2.0

Zulu on Blu-ray is meant to be stunning.

Other BR discs highly rated for picture quality:

Casino Royale: Deluxe Edition
Iron Man
Enchanted
Children of Men
Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street
District 9

If you Google you'll find plenty of BR movie reviews that give ratings for picture and sound quality. :)

As for PS3 being a good alternative, IMO that's only true if you want the other features of game console and media streamer, and you can put up with the console hanRABets for controlling DVD playback (or you are happy to spend extra on an extra Sony remote) which are a nightmare if you aren't used to them.

The 'Pirates' and 'spiderman' franchises make good HD movie material too. Having an HD ready TV is one part of the blu ray equation, the other is the HD soundtrack. There is CD quality audio for all 6 tracks on a properly mastered blu ray disc. A good sound system makes a world of difference to the experience too. TV speakers can never do justice to it. If you have an older 5.1 system, you will get Dolby digital, but it's a poor 2nd best to DD True HD. 640k spread over all 5 channels, rather than 1.2Mbit each.

Its not a film, but if you want something to give you that WOW! factor for the best visual experience ive seen so far on Blu Ray then get Take That: The Circus Live.
I was gobsmacked at the picture qualty and the concert was pretty good too.

Another vote from me for Zulu

My favourite film ever, and the BluRay version is simply stunning. HD was made for the kind of sweeping, lanRABcape scenes that Zulu has loaRAB of.

The best Blu Ray that i've seen is easily 'Pan's Labyrinth', the picture quality is simply stunning.

That's a bit of an exaggeration i think. I find the BD remote very easy to use, the only negative to it is that if you accidentally catch one of the buttons it turns the console on. Other than that though i think the PS3 is a brilliant Blu Ray player, and definitely one fo the best in terms up being updatable. Apparently it will be one of the few existing Blu Ray players compatible with 3DTV's (via an update) when they become available.

I had a PS3 for a year but the need for multiregion Bluray made me sell it and buy a Panny player.

I missed the music storage and intended to get another PS3 soon but Amazon Warehouse Deals forced my hand last week and cut

I got a Tevion player, and it plays blu ray discs from other countries(typing in just one short code for whatever region you want), I'm very very happy with it.

i bought myself a ps3 recently for this reason, did not see the point of a stand alone player - can do so much more! got some games - but hardly touched them. still, nieces have had a great time!

only downside is - it cant be de-coded to be multiregion (from my own research that is).

have very much enjoyed it

As the PS3 is more than double the price for some standalones it would be silly for anyone to buy one if all they wanted was a Bluray player.

Yes the PS3 is a superb piece of kit and for what it offers its exceptional value for money but unless you use these features no point getting one.

I sold mine for a multiregion Bluray player over a year ago but I just got another for music storage as the other device I was looking at , the Brennan JB7 is about
