We needed to replace the water pump, serpentine belt and thermostat and the car started showing steam from the exhaust pipe. Repair shop recommended that we buy Blue Devil Repair kit. Now the car won't start/turnover and they told us that we have water in the pistons. Will Thermo-gasket Repair kit fix this problem or will we need to replace the head gasket all together? This has turned into a repair nightmare.

i went through the same problem. you will need to replace the heads. once you do, ask the mechanic if the pistons are good and if there is any damage to the bottom half of the engine. If there is you will as well have to spend more money for the bottom half of the engine. VERY EXPENSIVE JOB

you need to replace the head gasket.there is no easy fix.no matter what you do after a little wile you will still end up replacing the head gasket.

If the coolant is making its way into your cylinders the head gasket is blown beyond the point of those magic repair bottles. It needs changed, but luckily for you a head gasket on an AMC straight six is so much cheaper and easier than any of these newer overhead cam motors. Shouldnt be more than like $800 bucks at a shop for parts and labor, compare that to a Honda which would run you between $1200 and $1500.
