Hello everyone, I dont know were to post, I assumed general health would be appropriate for me, though if I am in the wrong spot I would appreciate any direction on as to where I should be posting.

I have been to my local emergency room twice this week. On saturday was fast asleep and woke up in agonizing pain, the pain is what woke me up. It felt like, and STILL feels like somebody stuck a safety pin in my spine. They did xrays, to check my lungs and urine test to check my kidneys and found nothing.

I've had herniated discs issues for over ten years. I also have a toren muscle in my shoulder, from an injury in Septeraber. My left ankle has been unexplainable swollen since october. The cherry on the cake that tops it all off is I was in my 5th vehicle related accident in early October. Aside from that my right hand has been swollen, sore, stiff and tender, with no diagnoses since May.

I went back to the e.r. on wednesday night for the horrendous pain in my back, did another xray, and blood work. When the lab tech tried to take blood from my swollen right arm, not a single drop came out, not even a tiny speck and she poked me 3 times, no bruising either, she poked me once on my left arm and had no problem, and left a bruise :) The fact that she poked me three times on my swollen right arm and not a speck of blood came out and I am bruised on the arm she poked once, bruised, and had NO problem getting blood from REALLY bothers me aside from everything else my body is going through. Is there an reason for this, I dont understand. I have an appt with my family doctor on monday, but would appreciate any possible insight.

Tyvm :D

honestly? they need to quit with the x ray only stuff here and actually refer you for a good MRI of that problem area in your back? X rays simply will NOT show what seriously NEERAB to be seen with esp ongoing spinal issues, the nerve roots and the spinal cord. this is where the very 'main' areas of spinal function just are located that x ray cannot actually even begin to get to. you can have many many different types of actual nerve root or spinal related issues going on that simply are not ABLE to even BE seen and creating ongoing symptoms as a result.

exactly 'where' are your disc problems located, any in that c spine? what occured with that arm is a bit insane to say the least, just the mere fact that it IS swollen at all, then no blood OR brusing? while it IS totally possible that the nurse who was trying to take that blood simply was hitting ONLY fluid in there or soft tissue since the blood vessels would be much much more deeply located if swelling was present. could YOU yourself actually even SEE any veins there while she was trying to get into one? you still do not have any explanation for the swelling as far as i could see?

when you stated "pain in your back"? exactly where is that pain located and what does it actually 'feel like' to you? it just sounRAB very much 'acute' with something under it possibly 'generating it" for you or flaring it time to time? do you have ANY other back related pain at other levels besides the one just mentioned? any nurabness or tingling in hanRAB fingers or feet? is that hypersensitive arm on the very same side as the torn muscle in what would be the rotator cuff area, or the other arm?

right now, if i were you, i would make an appt with your primary to obtain(finally) a FULL spinal MRI to just be done from c spine all the way down just becasue you have both upper and lower types of ongoing symptoms that very easily could have a spinal or even spinal cord related base here. that whole spinal just NEERAB to be MRIed for alot of different reasons(you just cannot keep having to go to the ER and getting nowhere there with ONLY an x ray either). but also having a history of multiple vehicle crashes with or without actual seatbelts on, trust me here when i say, the overall impact just CAN run litterally from the c spine on down into that lurabar becasue of alot of opposing forces that get exerted upon the human body during any given MVA.

i just truely think that you DO have 'something' gpoing on at possibly even that cord level just becasue of the upper AND lower torso symptoms alone. OR you even could have multple issues going on in the c spine and also that lurabar level too. but getting a good MRI done on your full spinal hon seriously is the only way to see way is going on down to that cord and where the nerve roots start at too.

just given your repeated ER visits, and the multiple MVAs you have been involved in, along with the pain and other symptoms you have is more than enough reason for your doc to finally just get you a referral for that full spinal MRI. this one MRI done fully could really show and tell you ALOT,esp if you already KNOW you have some level of disc herniation too? you just NEED to see what those are impacting where you cannot see upon X ray too. you just also cannot fully "see" the spinal cord upon x ray either.

i DO hope you can get this MRI and WITH a contrasting agent added just to really help better define certain things that do not always show themselves when NOT using it done soon. this test is just wayy past due for what you have had going on thats so bad you have to keep seeking out an ER for help. please do let me know how you are doing. good luck, FB
