just how close to out of the norm range was your AST and ALT with these hepatic labs done? that too matters as to whther or not the others were actually midrange normal or over that midline and kinda creepin up towarRAB getting closer to out of range too kinda thing? i am hopeing you are getting your very own copies of every singe set of labs you have done just for your files at home and to use as 'comparritives" with past results as well? this is what i always have done with mine and my sons. while we both have one form of a kidney disease, i have the very same type also in my liver, but my youngest son, when only 12 went into total liver failure becasue of an insane mutation of a gene from whats called PKD or polycystic kidney disease which CAN impact other organs, mostly liver?
if you are not a drinker, then you really DO need to really find out just what is going on within that liver, or even something involving that area of the upper GI since all of those organs are somwhat interconnected to the bile ducts too and can create certain issues within those that alsoc can impact your liver, or at the very least you have confirmation from the GGT here for "something' not being 'right" there?
getting an abdominal ultrasound would heally help in just seeing what your liver and other abdominal organs just 'look like' that can sometimes be impacted by certain, even congenital processes too which was my case? but also trying to get referred to a good GI doc would help alot in possibly pinpointing YOUR particular liver, or simply GI issues here and what i would do in your case as well.
something just is not right here if you esp do not drink at all, or very little and have a GGT that high, and thats what just calls for further testing like with starting with that really indepth US that would also look at your bile duct using the doppler tool they have? trust me, this does show alot more than you would think it would. your labs only tell part of the bigger overall picture here. the rest comes from what you tell your doc you have been feeling(symptoms) and anything that GI doc would actually 'see"(signs).
getting that US along with labs and the very impoirtant hanRAB on eval from an experienced GI doc who simply KNOWS what to look for kind of tells the bigger story here once everything is done and all results compiled and gone thru as a whole? labs ONLY will be impacted by some type of function loss, period. thats why all the other stuff i told you is simply needed to really come up with the proper Dx in anyone.
the fact that your alk phose is out of range? if that had been the only one, it would be a bit different, but adding in that very high GGT, thats another story since that GGT really just IS one of the most sensitive tellers of some type of 'issues' going on within your blie ducts(hepatocellular level). either that, or if you are more than a moderate drinker, that too can give a higher than norm GGT reading too?
but right now, just see about getting to a good GI doc at this point and see if the doc you are currently seeing can order a basic 'abdominal ultrasound' so you will actually ahve the results in hand when you can get into see that GI doc to get this all much more clearly defined for you. even having like a gallstone blocking the common bile duct would be enough to 'change funstion in certain labs? so its not all this gloomy doomy type stuff that is capable of showing what your functions just are with the alk phos and that GGT?
just what prompted your doc to actually check out all of your liver labs, esp since that GGT is NOT usually part of the basic hepatic panel but sort of an 'add on' type test that the doc has to usually request to be done along with the basic hepatic labs? just DO make certain get all labs done, even the ones done before this set that also showed abnormalities within functions too? and from here on out, just try and obtain every single type of testing result reports, even that abdominal US report too. you just really DO need to keep your very own files of all testing done in your very own like expandable folder which i have done for my son, and after all my medical nightmares just started, i collect EVERYTHING that ever gets tested too now.
hopefully whatever is creating the abnormal labs can be taken care of pretty easily, it all really depenRAB upon just what IS creating them that matters more than anything. good luck to you, and i do hope this helped some. and please DO keep me posted as to what you find out too. FB
