Blog Talkback: Among the Living

I don't really mind revivals myself. In the Futurama case it was totally one of those things that fans felt had really gone away before its time, rather like Family Guy. At the same time there aren't that many situations like this, so I don't think revivals are an existential threat to new creations. If they happen to prove popular and/or came back because of popularity, well, that's competition at work and networks giving people what they want.

Remakes are a different and perhaps more interesting matter since they are more common and offering a different take on familiar ideas. On that, I think my opinion hasn't changed too much. There's a lot that's new out there, and people my age need to keep in mind that there's a generation out there that knows nothing of the likes of Thundercats and Voltron now.

I personally enjoy remakes/reboots, since they offer a new take on the series, and are entirely different beasts. While revivals mostly follow the same formula as to where they left off. Sure I like the Family Guy and Futurama, and I like where Boom Studios is going with the Darkwing Duck comic book, but I am still cautious about Beavis and Butt-Head, if only due to the fact I thought the final episode was pretty good way to end the series, while the other series I mentioned, were stopped while they were in their prime. Still, I'll give it a shot if MTV is going to.
