So recently my boyfriend and I have blended our families (I moved into his house). This was partly practical, as I'm not very well of and have two children, one of whom is physically disabled with high medical costs and the advantage of not having to pay rent was a big upside.
My other child, a sixteen year old girl is the same age as his daughter.
They don't get along and his daughter dislikes me intently but we've come to a truce where we respect each others space and we've all agreed we'll parent our own children so long as everyone is respectful.
We've hit a bump in that my boyfriend is very (very) well off and his daughter's lifestyle reflects this. She has her own car and credit card with (I don't think) any real limits.
My daughter, on the other hand has not only always pitched in around the house but for the last few years has had a job as well to help out the family.
My boyfriend has always been generous, though I've always insisted on paying for my daughter's clothing and room furnishings etc. because I don't want to be the sought of woman who would take advantage of the situation, because
1) I'm not like that
and
2) I'm fairly certain his daughter already thinks I'm a gold digger.
But I don't think its fair to my daughter to see everything we cant afford flaunted right in front of her everyday.
Should I let my boyfriend pay for more so I have more money to give to my daughter?
Should I talk to him about completely blending our finances and then I know he'd match our daughter's allowances? but even then his daughter has a huge flat screen and her bedsheets probably cost more than all the furniture in our old apartment!
Help please?
What do I do?
