my dads phone got broken and he decided to get a blackberry, now I don't know much about them, so I was wondering which he should get and why..or if he should get a treo..these are the choices

Blackberry 8700c
Cingular 8125 Pocket PC
HP iPAQ hw6515
BlackBerry 7100g
BlackBerry 7130c
BlackBerry 7290
Palm Treo 650

The 8700 is the current model offical blackberry. How computer savvy is he? If he isn't so hot on really working with them, then one of the offical blackberries would be my choice. If he wants features and the ability to 'play' with something, the Treo or iPAQ.

If he is coming from a more treditional phone then I recommend the 7100g or 7130c (if you are willing to fork out the cash). 7100's have a more compact shape to them but still have a nice keyboard...plus they are really cheap right now, but provide almost all the same features as their newer counterparts. The only major thing is that the 7100's lack EDGE, which slows down web browsing and email.

I said almost, as in provides almost all the same email, PIM, phone functions etc. If you don't tour the web that much, then EDGE doesn't really matter for the amount you have to pay for the 7130 right now, compared to the 7100

The main feature of a blackberry is the email. If you father is someone who needs constant and instant email, then blackberry is the phone for him. The other features of a blackberry are in other phones also.
Note, however, that microsoft has brought push email from their exchange servers, so the other phones should be able to do that as well. I know the 8125 can.
Of the treo, Ipaq and 8125, the Ipaq has GPS, and the 8125 has wifi. The Treo is palm os, which your father may appreciate.
He needs to look at each of the phones, handle them, get a feel for them and consider which will fit his needs.
