Blackberry without data plan?

I know that Verizon Wireless makes you get a data plan for all blackberrys in the store. If I bought a Blackberry off ebay and activated it online or from the *228 would they make me get one? Also I currently have the 25MB/month for my LG Voyager. Would this transfer over onto my blackberry if I were to get one? Thanks for the help. Its very appreciated.

No, this would not work. The system would recognize the device as a BlackBerry and tell you that you need a BlackBerry data plan upon activation.

Call them and explain that you don't need a data plan and that you can't use it because data is a security risk... I have managed to get them to do this 4 times.

A Blackberry with Verizon must have a data plan. I will say that while there maybe some loop hole 1 or 2 have got thru, it is a requirement and when you activate a Blackberry, Verizon will see it as such and automatically put the data package on your bill. I can't imagine that the Verizon management team likes being scamed with the loop holes and would probably press termination to a CSR that allowed someone not to have a data package put on the Blackberry since it is a STANDING REQUIREMENT, not only for Verizon but for AT&T and other carriers as well. But hey I am only passing along what I know as fact in the midwest.....It should be that rules on a specific carrier should stay same in each state, lol but who knows anymore......

There is away around it.
Pageplus will activate them, but you will lose BIS in a month.
You will mainly have to turn off data on the phone, so you won't be charged. BlackBerry and app's ping the server. Suggest you download opera mini before you port. Some advance phones will need to be manually programmed to work with PP.

Also,
Mingo wireless will be offering a package that will support BlackBerry and app's but their BIS is a little high right now.

Note,
When porting from post paid make sure you do it after your contract has expired, otherwise you have to pay an ETF & the last month usage. (You still have to pay the last month usage either way)

You won't get mobile to mobile minutes Verizon to Mingo/pageplus and from.

No, I am not a spokesperson for either company. I am just providing this information from what I have read about them, in fact I use Airvoice CDMA.
