Blackberry Pearl 8100 Questions

I am patiently waiting for T-Mobile to release the 4.5 update for the Blackberry Pearl 8100. My 8100 is currently running 4.2.1.107 and that is the most recent update according to tmobile. I was looking on their site again today and noticed that they have updates for SunCom branded 8100's that are running 4.2.1.140. I was wondering what the difference in between the software revisions and if there would be any issues from installing the SunCom software on my tmobile phone.

I really want to upgrade my phone to 4.5 but i am afraid that i may lose my myfavs support if i do. I wanna know if anyone else has upgraded to 4.5 on a tmobile branded phone and if so, what features are new and what will and will not work.

~via BB (wap.rabroad.com)~Im using a T Mobile 8120 and using Vodaphone's official release of 4.5 on it. Works great! Mine is unlocked so I'm using AT&T on it. I was using AT&T when I did my upgrade, and even though I have AT&T, when the device finished upgraded My Favs ended up re-installing, so I'm sure there will be no problems using My Favs once you upgrade. Technically if you find an official release for your model, you can upgrade to that if you just remember to delete you vendor.xml file.

I don't know the difference between the the two 4.2.1 operating systems you've seen, but I do know with 4.5 you'l get to use an 8gb memory card, multiple Address book options, multiple calendar options (both using your email addresses), steaming video capabilities, maybe video recording (not sure if its available for the 8100), voice notes, upgraded MP3 player, ability to look for application upgrades, and pp the top of my head that's all I can think of

yeah I agree with justyn,
if you follow this link:
http://blackberryforums.rabroad.com/blog.php?b=86

you can find the 8100 4.5 OS.
delete the vendor.xml file (like justyn said) and run DM (after the new OS is installed and the vendor file deleted)
it will prompt you to upgrade your software and ask you if you want to make a backup...
make a backup!

and good luck!

~via BB (wap.rabroad.com)~listen to this guy Setnev! This is the hit who helped me when I was having problems upgrading and was about ready to give up. If you do decide to upgrade, either of us can help you out, but Lucifersemis here taught me everything I know. He's awesome when it comes to installing new operating systems!

Aww man you give me far to much credit. I'm glad I made a good impression with you though. I've been watching you and you seem like a great guy to have on my side.
:-)

But like justyn said. If you have ANY questions don't hesitate to ask.

Ok, i found the Vodafone release that is 4.5.0.55 and i also found another link that is on the blackberry website that has the release as 4.5.0.62. Which release should i install. The .62 is from Hong Kong CSL Limited and is a multilanguage install. If i install either one, is there a way for me to go back to 4.2.1.107 if something doesnt work right?

What is the latest stable release. I dont want to put on something that is a beta or has not been tested as this is my only phone ATM. But i want to upgrade to get streaming support and voice recording. I mean if anything, if it doesnt work i can go back to my carrier os then right?

Everything seems to work ok with the upgrade. I have full my-favs and it recognizes on the blackberry network ok. The only thing is it seems to be a tad slow at times, the hour glass keeps showing up randomly but only when i do something for the first time.

I am loving the new 4.5 OS. I am having no problems with it at all, it is very fast after you run your apps at least once. On the first run of media player there was an hourglass that appeared for about 5 seconds then the application never did it again. The camera works perfect, no auto white balance bug, documents to go works perfectly, supports folders on home screen now so you can organize your home screen and get rid of excess icons. I love it, simply great.

ditto.

if you ever have any problems we are all here for you.
glad everything worked just remember, keep making backup's you may not need them for a LONG time but when you do you'll be glad they are there.

keep on berry'n and be well!
