Blackberry - extra message not showing up in inbox?

Uh, okay. I've had my blackberry for a little over a year now, and I've never had this problem. On my display screen it shows I have a message. I searched through my inbox, and never found the missing message, so I deleted all messages. Much to my surprise, I still had the indicator on my home screen. I restart my phone. Nothing happens, so I pull my battery, it's still there. How can I get this off? do I have to wipe my memory?

This happens to me often and the message indicator usually disappears after I delete all the messages in my sent box. I'm not sure why it does this either but once before I ended up deleting all the messages in all of my folders before it went away.
