blackberry charging problem?

have a blackberry curve 8520 and when i put it on charge the thunder bolt icon shows its charging but its not. i left it for about 30 min and my battery is still on low. i have tried the battery pull for like 5 times but its still not charging. can you help me because now my battery is dead and i dont know what to do. is the problem the battery or the phone
