Ok, so I want to get a Blackberry Bold 9700 off of craigslist but dont want to pay for a data plan because I only want the phone for its PDA, keyboard, and call functions. As of sept 6th or something like that At&t requires that if you have a smartphone added you must have a data plan. I was wondering if I could buy the blackberry, unlock it, and then use my SIM card in it to avoid this. Even if it was purchased after sept 6th, if I were to unlock the phone and then beforehand block all data usage on my SIM could i then put the blocked SIM in the blackberry so it dosent try to access data? this way i can avoid them knowing I have a blackberry and the blackberry from accessing data, hence giving me a huge data access bill? Also, would providing At&t with a different IMEI number (from a razr or something) help me avoid this? thanks.
