blackberry 9700 to telus

i am currently waiting to purchase the white blackberry 9700 from rogers and unlocking it to telus. i was wondering, if you have to unlock the phone, will bbm still work? because i've heard that unlocking a blackberry causes bbm to stop working :/ does anyone know if this is true or not ? i really need all the help i can get , thanks !
