Black Screen on a PS3?

So, I know how the PS3 works cuz my brother has one and so it's in my room now on the same TV as when it was on his room. But for some reason, it won't work. It's a black screen, I plugged everything everywhere and tried to turn it on but all I can get is a black screen. I found a problem with the AV cable that gets put into the PS3, the inside of it is missing 2 little chips. Can this be the cause of the problem??
