So my teenage acne disappeared a bit ago (I'm 21). And now I have this completely new "pattern" of acne--on my jawline and neck--where I've never had it before!

I've also always been oily, but noticed an increase over the past year.

I want to try BCP for acne. I'm thinking Ortho Try Cyclen or Yasmin.

QUESTION....Will my derm prescribe BCPs?

I am otherwise extremely healthy, and thus I have no General Practitioner doctor other than my pediatrician that I haven't seen in a few years. I am a virgin, and thus have no gynecologist. And I really don't feel like waiting weeks for that initial appointment.

Thanks!

Your doctor will prescribe bc pills for you not your derm. Otherwise you can always go to a plan parenthood too and you can get them for a cheap price. A girl I work with went to one and got on ortho try so its worth a try! I am on a generic brand prescribed by my doctor and it really helps keep my skin under control. It can take up to 3 months though for it start kicking in.

actually, my derm prescribed my birth control pills. i had to go to my regualr doctor to check blood pressure levels before starting the pills tho.

i'm taking Diane 35 - i've found that my hormonal cystic acne has really really improved.

Well you are lucky since two derms I went to and they wouldn't do that! I am glad its working for you! good luck!

My derm., yes derm., prescribed me Ortho Tri cyclen to help with my acne, however, I decided to go on the generic instead, because in college I can't afford $35 a month. I couldn't tell you if the generic is working at all or not as I started Spiro. at the same time as well. However, my derm. said she seems to think that the generic can make acne worse. I'm hoping to find a generic that helps with acne. Anyway, try the Ortho if you can, and if anyone knows any generics that work good for acne, let me know!
