Here are the directions to the project I have to do, just the answers to the questions at the end would be great! Thx everyone!

The Onion Cell

Directions

1. Using a razor blade or knife, cut an onion into quarters. Separate one of the onion quarters into individual layers, or leaves.
2. Use forceps to peel a thick layer of cells from the concave side of one of the leaves. Place the layer in a drop of water on a glass slide. Be careful to prevent the cells from rolling up.
3. Place a cover slip over the cells and observe first under low power, then under high power, being careful not to crush the coverslip when changing objectives. Note the structures you observe before continuing.
4. Remove the slide from the microscope and apply iodine solution to the edge of the cover slip. Draw the stain onto the cells by touching a piece of paper toweling to the water at the opposite edge of the coverslip. (Iodine reacts with starch to give a blue-black color. Starch is a white substance which plants use to store food.)
5. Observe the stained cells under low and high power. Note the structures you observe.
6. Respond to the following questions:
1. What was the purpose(s) of adding iodine to the plant cells?
2. In what region of the cells is the stain darkest? Why?
3. Draw three cells you observed under the microscope at high power. Label the structures you saw.
