Hi, my name Is Ashley, am going to attend SHSU this fall, I have already been accepted. I have always wanted to be a High School swim coach, I have been on a US team since I was 11 and swam all 4 years in H.S. and am now swimming masters and coach for a local team.
I am trying to decide on what to major in... currently I am majoring in Biology. I have just finished my associates of science but I am not too sure about continuing with the Bio. The reason I wanted to stay with Biology is because my freshman year of college I had the most amazing Biology class(bio 1), I absolutly loved it, but I'm not too into Microbiology and Taxonomy(which at SHSU, for the degree is a large portion of the classes I need to take). I'm not sure what I thought the degree was going to be... I always liked talking about how insulin worked and learning about the Genome Project and having general dissusions about Biology topics. I have a 3.7 but I'm feeling doubtful about staying with it, I am not the greatest at math which I need and a few of the classes may be just too overwellming for me, sadly. I am now leaning more to Kinesiology... I can do the classes for the most part but with the "economic times" if I change to Kinesiology I would have more options for a back up rather than Biology.
I guess what I am asking is, in your experience, would it be better, getting a job-wise for a school district, to continue with Biology and just deal with the classes I am not going to like or go ahead and change to a Kinesiology major, which I would like, and have a speech minor or something else I would enjoy along with my teaching certificate?
