As he cell grows larger and acquires more content, will it need more or less cell membrane to survive? Explain your answer?

Why can't cells survive when the total surface area to volume Ratio becomes too small?
 
the cell will need more membrane to survive because the cytoplasm will be larger

And if the SA/Volume ratio is too small the cell becomes too inefficent to live that is it uses up more resources then it creates and it must undergo mitosis or die.
