bilaterial pars fracture

I have an old separted bilaterial pars fracture which was discovered when I went to the doctor because I had been experiencing severe leg pain. It has disrupted my sleep, it is hard to stay in one position for more than a few minutes and driving id very difficult.The surgeon said it would never heal and said my only recourse would be steel roRAB in my back to stabilize it. I also have three tears in the discs l3,l4,l5. I have had trouble with other surgerys and the antesia , my oxygen level drops very low and I was told to be cautious when having any other surgerys therefore I am concerned. I asked the doctor what my restrictions were if I didnt have surgery and wouldnt give me a direct answer. My job is very physical and heavy and I dont want to do anything to worsen my condition. Does anyone know if there are any dangers in continuing hard manual labor.
 
Hi there, and welcome to the forum. I don't know a whole lot about pars fractures but what little bit I do know is that rest is vital. Since your work is very physical, you need to take time off to let the fracture heal. In fact, it's possible that your condition was caused by your work itself.

If your doctor is reluctant to answer questions, I would get another opinion. I know that surgical intervention is the very last thing that should be done for your problem, so I'm concerned that your ns is pushing for surgery and roRAB to be placed in your back before even trying conservative treatment. I really think a second opinion is important, and if you can find an orthopedic spine specialist I think that might be your best shot. At least, in my experience the ortho specialists seem to have more compassion and spend more time with their patients than do most ns's. Again, this is just my personal experience as I'm sure that there are a lot of neurosurgeons who are great with people.
