Biking Help? Difficulty riding.?

So... Not too long ago, I bought a Huffy cruiser. Usually, before I even managed to make two blocks, I'd find my knees buckling, my calves shaky, and me gasping for breath. Because of it, I stopped riding, thinking I just couldn't do it with my weight (Height: 5'7/ Weight: Between 280-300.lbs).

Now, with new inspiration to ride, I'm starting up again. But now, I find myself facing the previously mentioned symptoms in just half of one block. I've known others larger than me to ride bikes with what seemed like success, so my weight aside, there shouldn't be much an issue. Other than, maybe, potentially the following: my form when riding; my breathing; bike itself; terrain (many slopes and rocky/gravelly/beaten down roads where I live); distance from pedal to my base.

You need to get a 21-24 speed bike instead of a one speed cruiser. The gears will allow you to do an easy warm up and then start pedaling at 70-90 rpm's in a gear that is easy but gets your heart rate to 85% of max. Start with a easy 10 min warm up and then pedal at 70-90 rpm's in a gear that is easy but gets your breathing to the point where you can still talk but not sing. Don't be afraid to spend money on a good bike, they are a joy to ride and the benefits are well worth the extra cost.
