Bob A's shifter is very likely worth more than the whole bike...that said it is a shot in the dark and youll be lucky if Amazon even has it available (even though they advertise it). Several customers have tried ordering these parts and they are NOT available because of the sheer # of people that have purchased these low than low quality parts for repair / replacement purposes and the mfg just cant keep up with the demand for these. Most all shops will NOT carry these because they are obsolete and NO real markup in keeping them in stock.

magna bike with an SRAM? i bought a manga 6 speed mountain bike at a rummage sale for my 8 year old niece and the gear shifter is broken. It is an "index" shifter - a grip shifter - next to the grip. There is only a rear derailer - no front gear options. It also has a falcon index derailer. Does anyone know where I can find a replacement part or what would be a low cost replacement?

Um, the short answer is 'no'. Falcon components are Shimano compatible so you'll need to find a 6 speed Shimano compatible shifter. The are extraordinarily tough to find and are practically obsolete.

That being said SRAM does make a Shimano compatible GripShift but again, finding a 6 speed is going to be tough.

I do have an idea though... go to your local discount store that sells Magna... I think ToysRUs sells them. Tell the bike tech or manager that the 6 speed shifter broke on your Magna bicycle and ask if they might have a replacement.

I bet the reason that the shifter wasn't replaced is that it cost more than the bike for parts and labor... but that is just conjecture on my part.

any bike shop will carry a replacement. if you know how to replace and set-up your self ok if not have the shop install. should only take 20mins to replace. the part should be around 10-12$ and it comes with the cable already in just so you don't get charged extra for what comes with it.
