Bike from big box store?

I bought a Schwinn Sidewinder from a big box store (I couldn't afford a more expensive bike). Granted, I haven't had a bike for a long time, but when I pedal every once in awhile the pedals jerk and it seems like the chain didn't catch or something. Could I just need to lube the chain since the bike probably sat in the store for awhile?
 
the chain is prob too loose so you should pull the back tire back more so that the chain will be tighter and u wont have any more problems
 
I would suggest you bring it to a local bike shop and have them check out the derailer.It sounds like it might need a tune up.Good luck!
