Big-Lipped Alligator Moments

For those not familiar with the term, a Big-Lipped Alligator Moment (or BLAM) is a scene from a movie, TV show, play, work of literature, etc. that appears for no reason at all, has little to no bearing on the story whatsoever, and is basically never mentioned again.

The term, of course, derived from this particular scene.

What other BLAM examples can you think of in animation?

There is this song in A Man Called Flintstone.

Can a BLAM take place in the first two minutes of a movie? If so, the Power Rangers appearing in Perfect Blue is pretty bizarre. Though less bizarre than the plot...

Can a song Lyric be a BLAM?

If so, I nominate "Granny's gonna grab ya" from Return of Jafar. The most WTF moment I ever saw as a little kid. I always fast-forwarded that part of the movie back then even though I loved the rest of Jafar's song.

lets see;

Rock-a-Doodle - Pretty much the whole movie!

Dumbo - 'Look out, Look out! Pink elephants on Parade! Here they come! Clippity-cloppity! There here and there, Pink elephants everywhere!':p

Were Back: a dinosaurs story - Do i even need to mention?

One Piece - EVERYBODY ZOMBIE NIGHT!! ROUND AND ROUND AND TURN AND DIE!!

In DBZ movie Dead Zone, when Gohan eats an (apparently) acoholic apple and hallucinates about dinosaurs and...other things (all during a fitting Japanese song).

My brother and I were watching Sword and the Stone the other day and I was wondering why they were turning into fish and squirrles. My brother said it is to fill time.

How about a big lipped alligator storyline. I nominated Battle City Finals from yugioh. The few remaining contestants and their friends board a blimp that will take them to the final round of the tournament. But before they get there they're sidetracked by a virtual reality adventure, mainly so they can introduce deckmasters and have Kaiba deal with his dady issues.

I thought that myself. It's kinda disturbing looking back at that.

Don't even get me started on that.

What do you expect from that Anime? Especially since it's full of Shout outs to other series.

Personally here are some of mine:

-Transformers G1:
*City of Steel- Mixmaster's speech impediment (Right-Right-Right, Mega-Mega-Megatron)
*Carnage in C-Minor- The. Entire. EPISODE
*The Rebirth- Various parts, but especially The race between Blur and Hot Rod and Six Shot's Appearance (If it was a five parter like originally planed, he might have had been around longer)
*B.O.T.- Same thing with Carnage.

And there's plenty more in that series.

And Don Bluth has had several himself. Not just in the first post, but A Troll in Central Park definately counts as this. As does The Pebble and The Penguin.

The episode of Spongebob where Krabs is desperately trying to get a penny that Spongebob picked up off the street has one of strangest BLAM moments I've ever seen:

After shaking Spongebob down, Krabs accidentally knocks Spongebob's brain out of his body. Said brain then grows legs and scampers off, resulting in a chase scene throughout the restaraunt that has nothing to do with the main plot.

One part of Samurai Jack, where Jack's cloths are stolen by a white rabbit and decends into wonderland, Pretty much the entire episode was this.
