Bicycling on the subway?

Well, technically, you are allowed to bring your bike on the train, but during a crowded rush hour, you are going to piss a LOT of people off and get glared at a lot, too!

I mean, you could probably get away with it just fine at "off-peak hours," but, during rush hour, no way, José!

Good luck, and the link below is to the MTA webpage about bikes on the subway...

I travel weekly to NYC and part of my trip is to go from 34th street & 8th ave up to the Bronx. Usually I do this by the A train to 168th street, then the #1 up to the Bronx, and then the return trip in the morning. The trip up is usually around 7:30 pm, the trip down maybe 7 am.

I'm thinking of taking a bicycle but wondering what the feasibility is, and also what the rules are. The A train is pretty crowded at all times below 96th street. As an alternative I might consider biking uptown a little way and getting on somewhere farther north.
Mr. Danger, that's a good thought. Actually my final destination is pretty close to the Spuyten Duyvil stop. Anybody know what it's like to bring a bike on Metro North?
