What are some good long distance bicycle touring tires that are 26x1.5? I was wanting to buy the Schwable Marathon XR or Plus. Does anyone know if both are equally good tires? It would be great if you could give me a link to where could I buy tires you recommend.

I assume you have 26 X 2 that came with your bike. Thinner tires will add a "few" mph because they reduce your rolling resistance. But the above answer is correct; don't expect to keep-up with road bikes.

Silk purse out of a sow's ear.

You really don't need top of the line tires to go "touring" on a mountain bike. You're giving up so much weight, gearing and aerodynamics already that tires won't make much difference.

Something like those shown below will work fine and won't break the bank.
