bicycle friction shifter slips, what can i use to "lube" it?

i have a pair of older suntour sprint friction shifters, the shifter for the front derailleur had been giving me problems. so it took it apart and cleaned the inside which consisted of aluminum washers and now it doesn't hold at all. i was wondering if there was something i can put inside the shifter to help it hold better.
 
There is a friction adjuster in the center of the shifter. You tighten it to provide more friction. You want a balance to where it's easy to move but will stay in place.
