Alright so as I was riding my bike earlier today to class, I was pulled over by an LAPD officer, and given a citation for apparently running a stop sign. It said the citation was code 21453(D) VC "Ped crossed stop sign without stopping".. Of course this was after about 4 other people before and after me ran through the same stop sign on their bikes... but don't get me started... Anyways, since this is my first citation of any type, I'm wondering how it will affect me. First, does anyone know how much this is going to cost (or where I can find this info)? And also, do I have to appear in court, or can I just pay off the ticket? And what is the difference b/w contesting the violation and appearing in court? And finally, will this go on my vehicle/car insurance record? The cop said it wouldn't, but I find myself inclined not to completely believe him.
