Bible verses dealing with being free from the law? * Non-religious Christians only?

Someone came up to me and told me that even though I believe in Jesus Christ and am a Christian because I don't wear a skirt everyday, I am going to hell.

Any suggestions for scriptures dealing with being free from the law, salvation by faith, not by works, and when Jesus said that the most important commandment is to love your neighbor as yourself?
