Bible literalists, why do you trust the bible over your god?

Moderate christians seem to all have pretty much the same reason for not taking the bible literally, which is "I trust god more than I trust the bible. I accept evolution, the big bang and an old earth because god left behind a mountain of evidence for those things. I don't believe in a deceptive god."

So why is it that a tiny fraction of christians decide that the bible should be trusted more than their god? And why do you believe in such a deceptive god who wants you to think that the bible is historical fact?
