So I decided to move the box to the other side of the room, run my cables through the walls to essentially just have the TV on one wall - nice and clean.

I had s-video hooked up and red/white for audio - it worked fine.

I thought I'd be smart and buy a nice digital audio cable and a longer s-video cable and run everything through the walls...

I ran everything, hooked it all up AND... I now have a funky picture whereas I
see the 'looking for satellite signal' message window and it jumps, it's dark blue and very blury; after a few seconds I get think blue line down the left side of the TV and the message window is in several colors... nothing clear about it what-so-ever...

I took the 4100 and hooked it up to the tv using regular audio/video cables and it works just fine.

I don't know why moving it would cause the s-video to stop working - if anyone could shed some light on this for me I would greatly appreciate it!

Idiot that I am, I managed to bend a pin and in the process of straightening it, it broke off... now I get to buy another 30' cable and run it in the walls.

*sigh* good thing stupidity doesn't hurt, else you'd all hear me screaming

Hi,
I'm posting this for my inlaws as they've moved from Ottawa to Arnprior and the home they bought has Express Vu setup. The setup looks very confusing as there are a ton of co-ax running through to the house. All are numbered fairly well but the confusing part is that when they moved they said that all they had to do is plug everything in and away they go.
I've searched the forum and found that the 4100 units are cardless, however, it was working in their old house and for about a week of tinkering they still have no signal.
I'm not an Express Vu expert and I'm used to your usual plug and play antics with Cable. Is it necessary to have the phone line plugged into the receiver?
I should also mention it looks like there is a splitter there as there is a coax to the in but two of the outs looked capped and the other two are not hooked up but as I said they (the coax) are all numbered. For example in their great room it looks like a 7 but down where the power panel for phone and TV cables there is a 7 and 77 cable so we hooked up the 7 to the out and hoped for the best but it doesn't appear there is any signal. How long does one wait for the signal to come on? Do they have to be authorized from Bell again?
Just trying to help out and it isn't working. They may have to call in the tech to go over the setup.

why didn't they call BEV and take advantage of the move program?

they will send a tech out to hook them back up at no charge.

Thanks for being Man enough to report back, too many people come on here, ask a question, get the answer but never tell us they fixed things.

I for one am glad you fixed it as it was not an issue I have seen before and I have overseen the installation of thousands of these cheap and cheerful units.

we have 4 intotal boxes in our house. one only is hooked up to a phone jack. mine is not. we had a storm here and the boxes did not work for 3 days. now all the boxes in the home work but mine. im only getting a few channels. how can i fix the problem so it works properly. the book dont tell me much. how do i reset the box to work normal again. hope someone can help thanks.

they were told that it wasn't necessary but I guess now they have not choice but to send one out now.

It depends on why you are missing channels.

Are they "red" in the guide? Do they not show up at all? Do they show up but you get a signal error? Which channels (91 or 82)? etc.

More info is required to help diagnose your problem.

Step 1: Post the details
Step 2: Run the "check switch" and ensure you signal is good.
Step 3: Go to the Bell site and use the resync option.

Why not isolate the individual wires and try checking the coax you think is the Bev dish for a signal. Go directly from the dish to the receiver, even if you have to use a coupling to extend to the 4100 unit and lay coax accross the floors. If you do get a signal then you know the splitter(s) are wrong or the coax runs are bad etc...
Also this method will tell you if the reason for no signal is bad alignment and, you need to align dish again. All this if you would rather not call a installer in. The only possible cost is a length of RG6.

HEy

i will like to connect my remote to my tv so i can get the sound up or down without using my TV remote and i cant find my owner's manuel. I have a 4100 bell expressvue and my tv is a LG lcd. I will like to have all the codes pls or the code you know it will work and how to do it pls and thanks.
Because im not sure how to do it :P

Thank you for your time.

Thanks Pro...I'm heading over for the TurkeyFest tonight so maybe after the stuffing I'll roll my way over to the BEV and have a look at connecting it directly. They have a small enough TV I can move around and rest on their chest top freezer to see about the signal.
I'm totally foreign to this setup but just trying to be the dutiful son-in-law ;)

There is also a code scan option that will walk through all the codes programmed into the remote (note different remote models have difference code databases built in...newer models have more codes for obvious reasons).

If you can't find it through a search on this site (I would be very surprised if it hasn't been posted a couple of dozen times already) then the dishnetwork site has a PDF of the remote owners manual that has the steps to follow to do an auto code scan.

Hi. My friend moved out from his house and allowed me to storm in and take whatever i wanted. I took his 4100 BEV Reciever, remote, tv out cable and etc..

I was wondering what i could do with it. Thanks.

I believe you can do a random code search by doing the following
Make sure your TV is on
Then, using the 4100 remote
Hold the TV button down, until it the 4 lights on top flash, then release, and only the TV should be flashing
Then, press power
Then press the channel UP button
Press it, again, and again (don't go too fast)
Each time you press it, a random IR code will be sent
If you TV turns off, then press the # button to lock that code
Now try and turn your TV on, with the 4100 remote
If it doesn't work, repeat the process (some codes will turn off tv, but not turn it on, or change the volume levels, etc...)
I hope I remembered this process correctly, seeing as I have done it numerous times!!!:D
Good Luck

I'm sure the OP has figured it out already, but I figiured it would be handy if I posted my results.

156 which is actually a Goldstar code works for my new LG TV.

First of all, you have to know two things. If your friend still has an account with Bell Expressvu or was deactivated less than 6 months ago, he will have to leave a note in his account to give you the receiver. Second of all, you'll have to pay a $35 transfert fee since you are starting a new account with used equipement. To activate your account, you just have to call 1-888-SKYDISH and ask to transfert the equipement in a new account.

Hope this helps.
