Bev 2700 Model

I just recieced an old 2700 receiver, given to me and then I had the person that gave it to me assure Bev that it was OK for me to activate it. Well I have the new card and have tried to get the receiver activated from bell over the phone etc. Well is seems as if it will not take the new software version, so now I am looking for some one to flash the TSOP for me with the new sofrware. any one out there still remember how to do this?????????

For the price of a new 4100, I don't understand why people try to resurrect these old STB's.

If it will not take the software why do you think it is going to work without any problems.?

Turn off the Digital Lock and try again.....

Or better still as scrooloose says, buy a 4100.
 
make sure in the menu you have the option to download without your permission selected. what you want to do could be considered illegal even though your trying to use it as a legit subscription.i had a friend who modded IRD's and found if you wanted to put it back to normel you would have to find a similar software image for the exact model of the motherboard in it and sense its all underground it would be hard to find the correct version for your 2700

as others have said. stop being cheap and pony up the cash for a box.
 
Lots of old clients assume that receivers are OK to activate just because there is no owing balance. This is not the case... The person must call Bell TV and tell them he/she sold the receiver. Receiver could then be transferred to your account

As the receiver been activated on your account yet?

To "update" the software version hook up your receiver to your TV, make sure that the option update whithout my permission is selected and go to channel 198 (it will work even if the receiver is currently not activated) and shut off the receiver. You should then see a message on screen saying that vital programm information is now being downloaded to your receiver. When the bar is at 100% software should be updated

What king of card do you have in your receiver?

If your receiver has an Alladin card (blue and yellow) Bell TV will automatically ship you a new smart card AT NO COST. You may have trouble getting all the channels you suscribe to before you get that smartcard if you get it to work

Because of the following statement;



The ONLY legal way to update the software is to connect the receiver to the datastream. It is NOT legal to start using a JTAG and flashing the TSOP.
 
I disagree completely with your statement.

*IF* the consumer is simply backing up and/or restoring a legitimate TSOP image then nothing illegal is going on. It only becomes illegal if modifications are made to receive/decrypt the signal if you are not otherwise entitled to do so.

Back to the OP issue:
- If the unit had been "modified" then remove (properly) the digital lock or turn it off.
- Ensure that "allows updates" is enabled in the menu
- Check your software version. It should end in -N and not -F. If -F then you are out of luck.
- Do a hard reboot. Push and hold the front panel power button until the unit resets (about 10 seconds).
- Ensure there is good signal strength on sat 91 and that "check switch" reports the correct settings for your setup
- Turn the receiver "off" but leave it all connected.

The firmware should update to the current version within 30 minutes and the LED should blink while it is updating. Don't play with the unit while the LED is blinking.
 
Certainly commendable to give the benefit of doubt to the original poster but quite frankly very few 2700 units are now used legitimately. They were the unit of choice for other purposes.

The software didn't want to update with the new card and it did via the old card
 
Well dosborne, we will have to agree to disagree I guess.

My understanding is that it is illegal to tamper with the receiver, be it for Piracy or any other reason. I consider using a JTAG device to be tampering, as it is not the normal way to update the software.

Anyway the entire conversation is apparently mute as the OP now has managed to update his 2700 by installing the old card first.
 
You are indeed correct peano.

It does not even need to be the correct N2 card, you just need to put in an N2 Card call the correct department at Bell, who will marry the two together, then allow the receiver to update, followed by the card swap to the new N3 card.
