hey I got this betta fish just a month ago. its in a 4 litre aquarium, and has so far been fairly active, diving around aggressively. eating enthusiastically. the water tempertaure is 20-24 degree C. I feed it four pellets a days normally with upto one or two pellets in excess at times. but recently for the last three days or so it has stopped eating, it will see the food, move or speed towards it and either reject the food or miss the food when trying to mouth it or the pellet will come out of its mouth. in the last case if it sees the pellet coming out of its mouth it will try to mouth it again once or twice then give up. its spending a lot of time under water coming up ~10 min intervals for breathing air. i have seen it darting in water around too twice in its usual fashion. it did eat three pellets in the last three days in variation to what i explained but thats it. 20% water had been changed just yesterday in response to remedying the situation along with the dechlorinater and the biological supllement added but no noticeable change in behaviour. there are no physical deformities noticeable in the fins or skin. I have an underwater gravel filtre that came with the aquarium and normally do 20-30% top water change once a week and right now the water is visibly fairly dilute. I cant think of any other variable that was changed since its more active days.
I am an engineering student and get fairly busy from this september again, I can maintain a regularity with its food supply and water change but I am worried about its own irregular behaviour that might be emergent from time to time possibly resulting in terminal situations that can be unavoidable if not watched in a two to three day interval. this is my very first pet of any kind and I feel a bit lost about how to address the situation, any sensible advice will be much appreciated.
