little background: blue, male, betta. 1 gallon tank, lighted, not heated, filtration. Ok now, he is sitting still vertical, and when I peck on the glass, he will move then get vertical again still, or he will lay side-ways on a rock, looking dead, but is not. What is wrong, what can I do?

i JUSt got a betta an hour ago
mine is doing basically the same thing
i just asked a question about this too
hopefully we can both find out the answer

im hoping that its just a phase, lol

John Z has answered all of your questions. He's probably freezing. Do you live where it's snowing, or winter? Room temp may feel fine to you but the poor fish is probably freezing. Also, a bigger tank is a must.

Always do research before buying any pet.

You can buy him a 2.5 or bigger tank, WITH A HEATER. 1 gallon is a milk jug, not a tank. Bettas need heaters, or their metabolism slows. They become lethargic, and die prematurely.

How long have you had him? 2 years is the best you're gonna get out of a betta from petsmart or walmart in a 1 gallon with no heater. They're already about one or one and a half years old when they arrive at the store, and 3 years is about it for a betta when you don't take proper care of it.
