Hello everyone,
I have a betta fish, he is about a month old. I fell in love with him and began to spoil his little brains out. I moved him up to a 2.5 gallon tank that I regularly take care of. I use tap water with betta water conditioner, make sure the temperature is always decent for him, make sure the water is always clear, and I feed him daily.
He's quite territorial (I tried putting a frog in a few weeks ago and he wasn't having it) and he's active and responds positively to my face when I approach the tank.
But lately (ie. yesterday and today) he's been acting a little nuts. He will dart up and down up and down up and down in the water at rapid speeds and he will swim lengths of the tank really quickly, but he mostly stays, swimming really quickly, in this corner where he often builds his bubble nests. He will often look at the glass, and continue darting, almost as if he's attacking the glass. He looks healthy; he has clear eyes, no white spots, no damaged fins. But he won't stop darting! He only stops when I come near the tank, then he swims calmly in front of my hand or face. On top of this, he stopped eating his flake and dried blood worms food since I began feeding him frozen bloodworms.
Should I be concerned? Is he just really happy? Have I tainted his meals by spoiling him with frozen blood worms, now? Is he sick? Please help! Only responses from serious fish or betta enthusiasts who know what they're talking about, please!
Note: I just put paper on the outside of the tank where he was darting up and down in front of and so far he seems to have calm down! But he is flaring at the white paper I put there, now... what the heck
Second Note: Just for clarification, the frog is no longer in the betta tank. It is in its own tank with another frog.
Additional Details as Requested: I keep the tank spotless. I do full water changes once a week. I clean excess food and waste during the week with a turkey baster and any water I grab with it during this turkey baster cleaning, I replace with fresh, conditioned water.
