Betta fish community in a 10 gallon tank?

You can only keep the females together and even then there may be some bickering between them. The best thing to do would to put many plants or hiding places for any fish that may be getting bullied too much. It will allow them to get out of sight, but if the fighting progresses the betta or bettas should be removed immediately. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't so be prepared. Some females tend to be bossy or docile it just depends.

As for the males, I wouldn't even think about trying it. I can easily guarantee that if you put the males together you will end up with dead fish. Please keep the males separate, and watch the females.

I am sorry, but it would be silly to even try. A "community of bettas" just doesn't happen- it's not natural. How you expect to keep the males from killing each other and from harassing the females in a tank that measures 20x10x12 is beyond me.

Perhaps with a densely planted tank of about 500 gallons. But in a ten gallon? No way.

Hierarchy of females? Sure.
Group of males? No.
Group of males and females? No.

I have a 10 gallon tank, and a several bettas. 3 males and 6 females to be exact but they are all in separate tanks, but i really want a community of bettas. Can anyone help me as to how to start one of these betta communities to keep fighting to a minimum?

and for and for anyone who is gonna say its impossible or they will just flat out kill eachother dont even bother answering. I have seen people do it before and i am just curious as to how to do it myself.

it will work... but not for long. just because someone puts a picture up doesn't mean it really works. you don't know that they didn't separate them right afterward.... and if you've seen it in person, well then you should probably ask the person who achieved it because they are a miracle working fish keeper... sorry, but it's INSTINCT for them to fight. you need a tank that's at least a few hundred gallons or more to create a community with males and females.

however, you CAN keep all those females together in the 10gallon. keep it well planted with some cave and hiding spots and they'll be fine. there will be a little fighting in the beginning until they work out a pecking order, but after that they should be okay.
