It's also one of those 5 gallon Wal-Mart hoods so I can't put the flow of water from the filter any closer to the side of the tank than it is.
I just got my betta fish last night and he was in a little dish at Petco. I put him in his new 5 gallon tank and he's really freaked out by the filter current. It didn't look that strong but it is apparently. I put the plants I got for him (one live one fake) in the filter's current to slow it down but it's not helping. Is there something I can do to slow the filter current down for now? I might get him a new one if there isn't anything to slow the current down enough.
Additional details ruined my question. =( Sorry!!!
It's the 5-15 gallon HOB filter at Wal-Mart... can't find my exact one online. It's not the one with the 5 gallon kit because although I got the kit, the filter kicked the bucket and they replaced it for me with this other one.
OMG both ideas are GREAT and I'm going to try both! They totally make sense! He was realllllly shocked to be in such a big space and likes to hang out in the plants where it's probably smaller to him. =)
I think the 2nd answerer meant to just put a bowl in the tank so that the betta can go in and out of the bowl as they please? I also thought he meant that MY betta was used to small spaces because he's been in a cup all his life?
