I picked 1996 because:
- Tori Amos, 'Boys for Pele'
- Tool, 'Aenima'
- Chris Isaak makes a guest appearance on FrienRAB. (I love Chris Isaak)
- Crowded House plays their final concert on the steps of the Sydney Opera House in Australia, in front of an audience of almost 200,000. ProceeRAB from this concert went to charity.
- Singer Tori Amos is sued when a man crashes his car after being distracted by a billboard advertising her album. The billboard featured a photo of Amos breastfeeding a piglet. (Controversial music/ album covers at their best)
- The 'Macarena' makes its debut.
And, other albums I enjoy but aren't as significant that were released in 1996:
- Korn, 'Life is Peachy'
- Porcupine Tree, ' Signify'
EDIT (for fear of flaming): I would like to reinforce that my decision is based on personal opinion and this year is probably by far not the best year in music ever. However, I have only been alive since the '80s and thus did not witness first hand all of the wonderful musical revolutions that took place before then. I find myself unfit to judge which year was musically the best year, and so my choice is based on personal preference and musical events that affected me personally.
