Best way to get rid of Mice & Rats?

I have many mice and or rats living in my house they come in from the ground through small holes I want to know how I can get rid of them..& what are some of the best methods??? My family cannot take this & Im tired of them constantly killing them by stomping on them or other horrible ways I just want them gone once and for all..I love animals but my family doesnt & they want to go to extreme measures to get rid of them..What can they do????

Kill them.

I'd suggest poison or traps.
Maybe a cat.

get a cat. my family too had the same problems but ever since we got a cat there has been very less sightings of rats and cockroaches too have reduced. my cat just gets rid of them even before we get a chance to see them. so there is no chance of you feeling bad for killing them.
